MURATA’S THERMO-STRING AVAILABLE FOR AUTOMOTIVE AND CONSUMER APPLICATIONS New Thermistor is Smaller with Wider Temperature Range and Long, Flexible Wire Leads
Press release link to www.murata.com
Smyrna, GA, December 15, 2009 – Murata Electronics North America, a world-leading innovator in electronics and the largest global supplier of ceramic passive components, today introduced the updated Thermo-String temperature sensor. Thermo-String combines a cost effective epoxy coated tight tolerance chip thermistor, with long bendable wire leads (from 25mm to 150mm and in 10mm increments starting at 30mm), allowing for greater flexibility in reaching the temperature sensing location. The updated Thermo-String can operate over the wide automotive temperature range (-40 to +150C), and is ideally suited for temperature monitoring and protection of lithium ion batteries in hybrid electric vehicles (HEV). Thermo-String’s small coated sensing head is 1.6mm thick making it ideal for placement in tight spaces.
The Thermo-String is also sturdy, making it resistant to mechanical vibrations and shock and meets ELV/UL requirements. Due to its numerous attributes, the Thermo-String is ideal for use in a variety of products, including battery cells, servers, PCs, power tools, measuring instruments, medical equipment and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC). Additional benefits of the Thermo-String include lead free soldering, halogen free materials and RoHS compliance. Murata’s high accuracy chip NTC thermistor lineup (NCP15 series +/-1% resistance tolerance at 25C) or its chip over-temperature PTC thermistor can also be used in the Thermo-String.
“Murata redesigned the Thermo-String anticipating important changes in the automotive market,” stated Peter Tiller, senior group product manager for Murata Electronics North America. “Our automotive electronics expertise allows Murata to be at the forefront of new vehicle technology as well as green technology.” Thermo-String samples are available for $0.30, final cost depends on lead length and twist in the wire. Lead-time is approximately 10 weeks. Additional purchasing info can be found online at www.murata-northamerica.com.
Murata is the market leader in chip NTC thermistors and uses semi-conductive ceramics and electrode printing technologies to produce both NTC and PTC devices. In addition to the leaded product, Murata is continuously introducing new smaller chip size NTC and PTC components that readily enable product down sizing. |
